This unique construction, which gained great popularity during the 1970s, serves as the backstage space for concerts, fashion shows, and meet & greets at the world’s only fashion-dedicated hotel, located on the island of Ibiza.
Ibiza, 2024. Located on the island of Ibiza, the recently opened Los Felices: The Fashion Hotel is the only hotel in the world entirely dedicated to fashion in all its forms and versions. As a testament to this, it pays homage to the Futuro Houses created by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in the 1970s. Los Felices has designed its own version, presenting a personalized tribute through the Futuro House Stage, featuring warm pastel tones, delicate lines, and exceptional views of the pool area. What may seem like a movie scene to many, resembling the arrival of a UFO, is actually a fabulous backstage for the live concerts, fashion shows, and meet & greets that regularly take place at this charming hotel on the beautiful island.
The Futuro Houses are an emblem of the Space Age, the architectural and interior design movement—also known as the Atomic Age—spanning approximately from 1940 to 1963. Los Felices sought to revive this iconic fiberglass structure shaped like a flying saucer, just as Suuronen would have done, adding a splash of color and using it as the coolest space ever created on the island.
Diego Calvo, co-founder and CEO of Concept Hotel Group, was the creative mind behind this extraordinary idea. The spectacular construction was designed by Ilmiodesign, the hotel’s go-to architecture and design studio, and brought to life by the masters at Tailoring Deco. The structure was built in Valencia, transported to the hotel, and assembled there, along with the furniture and upholstery. The building measures approximately 7.5 meters in diameter, 2.9 meters in height at its highest point, and covers over 30 square meters. The Futuro House Stage sits on a concrete base and atop a steel ring 1.4 meters off the ground. Inside, you’ll find a bench, a disco ball, a bar, and a makeup mirror.
The origins of the Futuro Houses
In 1968, Stanley Kubrick’s film 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered, and it was no coincidence that the production of Futuro Corporation began that same year. Founded by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen, the company introduced a new way of living with the creation of the Futuro Houses in the late 1960s. These prefabricated homes, made from fiberglass and reinforced polyester plastic, offered a lightweight, portable, and weather- and corrosion-resistant living solution. Only 100 units were built, with about half still surviving today, scattered across Australia, France, Finland, and Denmark. If your dream is to witness one of these unique buildings, your flight must be destined for Los Felices: The Fashion Hotel.
