One of the youngest and most rebellious car designers in the industry is launching his own project.
In the realm of car design, certain names have become legendary—whether they are the designers themselves or their design houses: Ghia, Bertone, Pininfarina, Italdesign, Giugiaro, Tjaarda, Colani, Scaglietti, Zagato, Gandini, Opron, Bruno Sacco, Le Quement, Gordon Murray, and Peter Stevens, among others. In recent times, new names have emerged, gaining prominence in the industry. J Mays, Ian Callum, Alfonso Albaisa, Chris Bangle, the renowned Peter Schreyer, Luc Donckerwolke, Karim Habib, Klaus Zyciora, Ralph Gilles, and Ken Lee are just a few examples. Feel free to add any other notable names you think of.
Among the new generation, one name that stands out, though not widely known, is Sasha Selipanov. Selipanov was responsible for the exterior design of the Lamborghini Huracán and the Bugatti Chiron. He served as the Chief Designer at Koenigsegg, where he developed models such as the Gemera and also designed the Genesis Essentia Concept. With his thick beard, metal band t-shirts, and tattoos, he resembles a blend between Ken Block and Magnus Walker, rather than the classic, suit-clad designers of the past.
Now, after establishing his own design consultancy, Hardline27, Selipanov has announced that he is developing his own hypercar, the Nilu27, under his boutique company, Nilu.
The most intriguing aspect of the Nilu27 is that we have seen only its rear end so far, which features two floating LED lights, a triple exhaust, large rear diffusers, and a detailed rear suspension setup. Additionally, its sound can be heard in the video linked below.
According to the Nilu team, “Unaffected by digitalization, electrification, and other distractions, we are focusing on delivering the ultimate driving experience with a healthy dose of ‘holy shit’ added in.”
In essence, the Nilu27 could well be the rebellious sibling of Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50.
