The renowned engineer behind some of Red Bull Racing’s greatest Formula 1 successes has now designed one of the most spectacular hypercars.
Since its inception in 2005, Red Bull Racing has expanded its capabilities significantly, now operating from a 117-hectare campus in Milton Keynes, England. Red Bull Advanced Technologies, founded in 2014, is responsible for engineering, design, technology, simulation, and production across a range of industries. Now, this division has unveiled its first production car: the RB17, a Formula 1 car for the streets.
Over 1,000 Horsepower Under the leadership of Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing Group’s high-performance engineering arm has developed a hypercar entirely in-house, debuting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This two-seater machine is “optimized for the ultimate track driving experience” and is powered by a propulsion system that will use a V10 engine, producing more than 1,200 horsepower.
The company states that the RB17 is inspired “by the cars Red Bull Racing has competed with in the world’s most demanding and technically advanced motorsport series.” Newey’s creation is built around a carbon-fiber chassis and boasts “the most advanced ground-effect package available in a production car.” While full technical details are yet to be released, it’s known that all the power will be sent to the rear wheels via a carbon-fiber transmission. The car will weigh just 900 kilograms and exceed a top speed of 350 km/h, promising lap times comparable to a Formula 1 car.
A Collector’s Car “I’ve been contemplating the challenge of designing our own hypercar for many years, and it’s been a wonderful project and journey. To finally unveil the RB17 is extraordinary. This hypercar embodies everything we stand for: undeniable power, speed, and beauty. It’s highly versatile and designed as a two-seater so the thrill of driving at F1 speeds can be shared with a friend or partner,” says Adrian Newey.
Christian Horner, CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, adds: “We’re thrilled to present the RB17 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a project that stands as one of the most genuine and exciting ventures Red Bull Advanced Technologies has taken on to date. With 20 years of F1 legacy and a performance-driven organization, designing our own hypercar from scratch made perfect sense. Blending technical innovation, achievements, and emotional appeal, the RB17 is an iconic car. I’m incredibly proud of the team and excited to see it make its world debut. We expect the RB17 to become a future classic.”
Price and Launch of the Red Bull RB17 Lastly, but importantly, the production of the RB17 will not only secure existing jobs within the company but also create over 100 new roles in Milton Keynes, along with economic benefits for project partners and suppliers. Red Bull Advanced Technologies has announced that only 50 units will be built, with production set to begin in 2025.
The price of each of these 50 machines will be £5 million (plus applicable local taxes), a significant figure that grants owners access to a range of Red Bull Racing services. These include access to simulators, vehicle development programs, training, and track experiences. The RB17 will also have full factory support, with service and maintenance tailored to each owner’s usage profile.
