traditions while providing the comforts expected of a contemporary luxury destination.

Its courtyards, colonnades, gardens and carefully considered interiors evoke the grandeur of Rajasthan’s princely past without attempting simply to reproduce a historical monument.

The hotel also places considerable emphasis upon the cultural traditions of the surrounding only upon ecological restoration but also upon whether the development can provide an inclusive, economically viable and genuinely sustainable environment for those who eventually live and work there.

Nevertheless, its environmental transformation already offers an intriguing example of what may be possible when regeneration precedes construction rather than being treated as an afterthought.

Water: The Foundation of Civilisation

In Rajasthan, the importance of water requires little explanation.

For centuries, the survival and prosperity of communities depended upon their ability to capture, conserve and distribute a resource that could never be taken for granted.

Traditional water-harvesting systems were among the most sophisticated achievements of the region’s historic civilisations.

Shekhawat has drawn heavily upon this inheritance.

At Dhun, traditional water-management practices have been incorporated into the restoration of the landscape, helping establish reservoirs and support the regeneration of vegetation.

The underlying principle is that a settlement should work with the natural movement and availability of water rather than relying exclusively upon expensive technological interventions.

This does not mean rejecting modern science.

On the contrary, Shekhawat advocates combining ancestral knowledge with contemporary engineering, ecological research and new technologies.

The ambition is to create systems that are environmentally responsible, economically practical and capable of being adapted to other regions.

Such an approach is especially relevant to countries facing increasing pressure from urbanisation, water scarcity and climate change.

It also challenges the assumption that solutions to contemporary environmental problems must necessarily originate in the most technologically advanced societies.

Sometimes, the knowledge required has existed for centuries.

The task is to understand it, adapt it and give it renewed relevance.

King Charles III and the Philosophy of Harmony

Perhaps the most significant international recognition of his work has come through his association with His Majesty King Charles III and The King’s Foundation.

For more than half a century, the King has advocated a philosophy of environmental stewardship that was frequently regarded as eccentric when he first began expressing it publicly.

Long before sustainability became a familiar part of international political and corporate discourse, the then Prince of Wales was speaking about organic agriculture, traditional architecture, biodiversity, conservation and the dangers of treating the natural world merely as a resource to be exploited.

His philosophy of Harmony rests upon the conviction that humanity is not separate from nature but an integral part of it.

This perspective has informed the work of The King’s Foundation, particularly at Dumfries House in Scotland, where education, heritage conservation, traditional craftsmanship, agriculture and community regeneration have been brought together.

The philosophy finds a striking parallel in Shekhawat’s work at Dhun.

Both men share a belief that the built environment should respect natural systems, that traditional knowledge deserves serious consideration and that economic progress must be understood in relation to human wellbeing and ecological health.

Their association has developed through the work of The King’s Foundation and international initiatives dedicated to sustainable development.

In 2025, Shekhawat attended a gathering at Dumfries House marking a partnership between The King’s Foundation and Qatar Foundation’s Earthna Centre for a Sustainable Future.

The initiative established a programme of pilot projects in India, Guyana, Sierra Leone and Tanzania, exploring how traditional knowledge could inform contemporary architecture, urban development and environmental resilience.

King Charles attended a reception associated with the announcement, at which Prince Mavendra was among the participants.

This collaboration represents something of considerable importance: a dialogue between traditional Indian approaches to environmental management and the King’s long-standing commitment to sustainable communities.

<h2 id="finding-harmony-a-kings-vision-a-royal-documentary-with-a-global-message" 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" />

Released internationally on Prime Video on 6 February 2026, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision offers an intimate examination of the King’s environmental philosophy and the initiatives it has inspired around the world.

Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet and directed by Nicolas Brown, the documentary was produced by Passion Planet in collaboration with The King’s Foundation.

It follows the evolution of Charles’s environmental thinking over several decades, combining archive footage, interviews and contemporary examples of projects seeking to restore the relationship between human communities and the natural world.

Among those examples is Dhun.

Manvendra Singh Shekhawat and his regenerative development project in Rajasthan feature in the documentary as an illustration of the King’s Harmony philosophy in practice.

The film introduces viewers to the restoration of the once-degraded landscape and allows Shekhawat to explain how his own work relates to the principles promoted by the King.

The King’s Foundation has also publicly highlighted Dhun as one of the projects featured in the film, acknowledging its ecological restoration and the educational collaboration between the two organisations.

This is particularly meaningful because the documentary does not simply celebrate environmental ideals in the abstract.

It explores what happens when those ideals are translated into practical initiatives involving land restoration, architecture, agriculture, education and community development.

Dhun provides a particularly compelling example.

In a region where water scarcity and environmental degradation present formidable challenges, Shekhawat has demonstrated that ecological restoration can form the foundation of a new approach to settlement and economic activity.

The film places his work within an international movement that includes projects in Guyana, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom.

For Shekhawat, participation in such a documentary represents recognition not merely of an individual achievement but of the broader relevance of the knowledge systems upon which his work is founded.

It also introduces an international audience to the possibility that solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges may emerge from regions whose traditional practices have too often been overlooked.

The documentary is available through Prime Video’s official information about Finding Harmony.

From 300,000 Trees to a Regenerative Landscape

The continuing evolution of Dhun illustrates the importance of distinguishing between environmental ambition and measurable progress.

While figures reported in December 2025 recorded approximately 270,000 trees and eight water bodies, The King’s Foundation subsequently described further development of the landscape.

In its own account of the project, the Foundation reported more than 300,000 trees, ten freshwater bodies, approximately 600 million litres of harvested rainwater and more than 180 bird species.

These figures reflect a later project update rather than a contradiction of the earlier reporting, although independent verification of the full ecological data would be valuable.

What matters is the direction of the work.

The transformation of damaged land into a functioning ecosystem is not achieved simply by planting trees. It requires the restoration of soil, water systems, biodiversity and the ecological relationships upon which long-term resilience depends.

It also requires a sustained commitment to maintenance, monitoring and adaptation.

The broader test for Dhun will come as its residential and economic ambitions develop.

Can a community of thousands of people coexist with a restored ecosystem without gradually undermining the environmental achievements that made the development possible?

Can traditional construction techniques and modern technologies combine to provide affordable, comfortable and resource-efficient homes?

And can the economic opportunities created by such a development extend meaningfully to neighbouring communities?

These are precisely the questions that make Dhun such an important experiment.

Its potential significance lies not in claiming to have solved every challenge, but in attempting to demonstrate a different way of approaching them.

The I Love Foundation: Philanthropy Rooted in Community

Shekhawat’s environmental ambitions are complemented by a sustained commitment to civic improvement and cultural preservation.

Through the I Love Foundation, established as part of his wider work in Rajasthan, he has supported initiatives designed to strengthen local communities and encourage greater public responsibility for the places in which people live.

Beginning in 2013, he worked with local communities on more than thirty projects, including a major cleanliness and conservation initiative in Jaisalmer

The philosophy behind these activities is closely related to that of Dhun.

A community cannot flourish merely because buildings are constructed or economic activity increases. Its success also depends upon public spaces, environmental quality, cultural identity and the willingness of its inhabitants to participate in collective improvement.

Shekhawat’s philanthropic work seeks to encourage that participation.

Rather than regarding communities simply as recipients of charitable assistance, his approach places emphasis upon their knowledge, involvement and capacity to shape their own futures.

This distinction is particularly important in development work.

Projects imposed upon communities without sufficient understanding of their circumstances frequently struggle to establish lasting benefits.

By contrast, initiatives that draw upon local knowledge and encourage participation may create a stronger sense of ownership and continuity.

It is this belief in the importance of community that connects Shekhawat’s philanthropic activities with his larger environmental vision.

Culture as Infrastructure

One of Shekhawat’s most interesting ideas concerns the economic and social value of cultural heritage.

In conventional development models, culture is often treated as an optional addition to the more serious business of infrastructure, industry and commerce.

Historic buildings may be preserved for tourism, traditional crafts promoted as souvenirs and cultural festivals supported as occasional attractions.

Manvendra proposes a rather different understanding.

He argues that culture itself should be regarded as a form of infrastructure: something capable of supporting economic activity, strengthening communities, encouraging creativity and giving development a distinctive identity.

This is an idea with considerable implications for countries possessing rich historical and artistic traditions.

India’s architectural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, agricultural knowledge and regional identities represent an extraordinary accumulation of cultural capital.

The challenge is to ensure that this inheritance remains economically and socially relevant rather than becoming disconnected from contemporary life.

Through his hospitality ventures and regenerative projects, Shekhawat has attempted to demonstrate how cultural preservation can contribute to commercial success and environmental responsibility.

His argument is not that every traditional practice should be retained without question.

Rather, it is that inherited knowledge should be examined for its continuing value and combined intelligently with contemporary science, design and technology.

The approach offers an alternative to the assumption that modernisation necessarily requires cultural uniformity.

International Recognition and the Future of Regenerative Development

His achievements have increasingly attracted the attention of international institutions concerned with architecture, sustainability and social innovation.

He has been associated with the Aspen Institute, the Unreasonable Group, Summit Impact, INK and the Frontier Technology Laboratory at the University of Cambridge.

His work has also been recognised through his engagement with The King’s Foundation and Qatar Foundation.

In December 2025, he received the Climate Impact award at NDTV’s Indian of the Year ceremony, recognising the environmental restoration achieved through Dhun.

The award drew attention to the scale of the project and its potential relevance to wider debates about urban development and ecological regeneration.

His international engagement continued through the Architecture of Place series, a collaboration involving the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, INTBAU and The King’s Foundation.

In a conversation published in January 2026, Shekhawat was presented as a regenerative developer working at the intersection of culture, ecology and economics.

The series brought together practitioners concerned with how architecture and landscape can contribute to a more meaningful relationship between people and place.

These associations matter because the challenges addressed by Dhun are not confined to Rajasthan.

Rapid urbanisation, declining biodiversity, water insecurity and the erosion of traditional communities are international concerns.

The possibility of adapting aspects of Dhun’s approach to other regions is therefore an important part of its broader significance.

Yet any attempt to reproduce the model elsewhere would require sensitivity to local geography, climate, culture and economic circumstances.

A successful regenerative development in Rajasthan cannot simply be transplanted into Africa, Europe or the Americas without considerable adaptation.

The underlying principles, however, may possess a much wider relevance.

An Inheritance Reimagined for the Twenty-First Century

There is something particularly compelling about the relationship between Shekhawat’s royal heritage and his contemporary environmental ambitions.

The princely states of Rajasthan produced some of India’s most magnificent architectural and artistic achievements.

Their rulers commissioned extraordinary palaces, established gardens, supported craftsmen and developed sophisticated systems of water management.

Those achievements were expressions of power and prestige, but many also reflected a profound practical understanding of the relationship between settlement and landscape.

Shekhawat’s work offers a contemporary interpretation of that tradition.

Rather than seeking to recreate the political structures of the past, he draws upon the knowledge, aesthetics and sense of responsibility associated with his cultural inheritance.

His vision is directed towards the future rather than towards nostalgia.

It seeks to demonstrate that heritage can become a source of innovation, that environmental restoration can support economic opportunity and that prosperity need not be measured exclusively through material consumption.

The relationship with King Charles III adds another dimension to this story.

The King has devoted much of his public life to arguing that traditional knowledge, craftsmanship and respect for the natural world have an important place in modern society.

Shekhawat’s work provides a practical example of how similar ideas can be pursued in the very different environmental and cultural circumstances of Rajasthan.

Their shared interests illustrate the possibilities of international cooperation founded upon common principles rather than identical experiences.

Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of Manvendra’s philosophy is his refusal to regard environmental responsibility simply as a question of restriction and sacrifice.

Much of the contemporary discussion surrounding sustainability is framed in terms of what humanity must consume less of, abandon or prohibit.

Shekhawat approaches the subject from another direction.

He asks what might become possible if communities were designed to restore natural resources, encourage creativity and support human flourishing.

In this understanding, sustainability is not merely about reducing the damage caused by development.

It is about creating conditions in which both people and nature can thrive.

The transformation of Dhun from degraded land into an increasingly diverse ecological landscape provides a tangible illustration of this ambition.

Its ultimate success will depend upon how well those achievements endure as the project develops into a functioning community.

Nevertheless, the vision is both imaginative and encouraging.

At a time when environmental debate can become dominated by anxiety and pessimism, Shekhawat offers a more constructive proposition: that human ingenuity, guided by respect for nature and an understanding of inherited knowledge, can help restore what has been damaged.

A Legacy Still Being Written

Manvendra Singh Shekhawat represents an intriguing combination of traditional inheritance and contemporary ambition.

His work in hospitality has helped celebrate the architectural and cultural splendour of Rajasthan. His philanthropic activities have supported local communities and encouraged civic participation. His environmental projects have demonstrated the possibilities of large-scale ecological restoration.

Through Dhun, he is attempting to bring these interests together within a single, ambitious vision of regenerative living.

His participation in Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision has now introduced that undertaking to an international audience, placing his work alongside the environmental philosophy that King Charles III has championed for more than half a century.

The significance of this recognition extends beyond the prestige associated with a royal documentary.

It acknowledges the possibility that India’s traditional knowledge, cultural inheritance and contemporary entrepreneurial imagination can make an important contribution to the international search for more sustainable forms of development.

The challenge ahead will be to translate Dhun’s remarkable ecological achievements into a community capable of demonstrating that its principles can endure in practice.

For him, that challenge is also an opportunity.

He has already shown that a landscape once regarded as barren can be transformed through imagination, knowledge and sustained commitment.

The next chapter will determine whether the same principles can help transform the way communities are conceived and built.

His most enduring legacy may ultimately lie not in the hotels he has created, the awards he has received or even the extraordinary landscape he has restored, but in the conviction that the wisdom of the past can become one of the most valuable resources for building a better future.

It is a vision worthy of serious attention — and one that finds a particularly distinguished ally in His Majesty King Charles III.

Research: The King’s Foundation, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision (2026); NDTV Indian of the Year (December 2025); Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (January 2026); Qatar Foundation and Earthna; Prime Video; and The King’s Foundation’s Dhun project updates.

Please visit the I LOVE FOUNDATION website: https://ilovefoundation.org/

Des magnifiques palais et des paysages désertiques du Rajasthan à la réhabilitation ambitieuse de centaines d’hectares de…
[18,12,13
4786,4784,4785,4732,4782,4551,4634,4788,4549,4783,4538,4787
0":"post-64689","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-royalty","8":"category-society","9":"category-travel","10":"tag-contempraryvision","11":"tag-dhun","12":"tag-heritage-2","13":"tag-luxury-2","14":"tag-mavendrasingh","15":"tag-philanthropy-2","16":"tag-royalfamilies","17":"tag-royalheritage","18":"tag-royalty-2","19":"tag-suryagarhhotel","20":"tag-sustainability-2","21":"tag-vissionaire
["GET
